A lab would be an excellent pet. They do require walking, but minimal grooming since they are short haired. They have a great personality and love kids. When picking out your puppy test him but turning him on his back and cradle him like a baby in your arms. If he is submissive, and doesn’t try to wiggle free, then this is the pet for you.

Have you thought of a Westhyland White Terrier? They are cute, not really large, and very lovable. Also much easier and cheaper to care for than a larger dog.

I have a Staffy and I love her to bits, they are great with kids too. Short hair so pretty easy to maintain. Have only owned Staffys so I cant comment on other dogs sorry!

I would say a Labrador Retriever. Do you know that Labrador retrievers were voted #1 dog in the nation. They are good with childeren and love to be exercised. There is know mean Lab. If you are looking for a Lab that is not priced high go to

    Good Luck!

I think it is best to have a **** zu dog. They’re small cute and easy to get along with. Big or giant dogs are often harmful and can bring harm to the family especially when dogs like these are disturbed while eating playing etc. **** zu dogs are easy to learn.they are harmless. You can also prefer to poodles and chihuahua but I don’t like these kind of dogs. ok?well

Not to offend anyone, but chihuahuas and poodles are quite stupid.Golden Retrievers,Labrador and German Shepard are the top choice! If trained, can even be a great help in the house!

I think a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. They are WONDERFUL with children and are VERY gentle!!

My family has had several breeds and Cavalier since I was seven… they are the only one that we have stuck with all that time.

It all depends on what you want… big dog/ small dog
something that will watch tv with you etc.

If you are looking for a bigger dog a gordon setter is also a great breed. also VERY good if you are looking for a bigger dog.

A german shep. might be a bit much for a child of just 4 years of age. size etc

I think Boxers and Bulldogs (English) make great family pets. I am told Shih Zu’s are good if you like that type of dog.

Go to a rescue or a shelter and ADOPT a dog. Mutts do not have the health problems that purebred dogs do, and purebreds might not always exhibit behavior traits that you expect them to. Rescues are great because you can spend lots of time with them to see if they will be a good fit for a family. Most rescued dogs appreciate a home more as well, if that seems possible.

Whatever you do, dont buy a pet from a pet store!

I’ve had a Labrador Retriever and a Golden Retriever and I can tell you that they both shed a lot. Especially the Golden. You will never buy black pants again! However, you know they are an awesome dog in every other way when people are willing to overlook all that housework and get another one, even when they’ve had the breed before and know what they’re getting into. Retrievers are reliable, loving, loyal and sweet. Like I said, I’ve had two retrievers (in my pre-children days). Now, I myself am in the exact same situation as you. I have three kids ages 7, 5 and 3. My kids want a dog, and I’m ready for another dog too. I want a friendly dog, but a big dog may be too much for them to play with. I’m now thinking about a Bichon Frise because it is small, no shedding and apparently good with kids. But I still love the retrievers!
