child health
amy m asked:

I go to school full time and have 2 children. My husband has not paid and do not have health insurance. Children do, Medicaid. My husband says when they are done with school, I should work full time to provide the family health insurance. When I am sick and I have to go to the doctor, gives me the attitude that suffer another bill. I say if it is to be unpaid, he should make enough to pay it, or get a real job.

you need to get away from him. the Bible tells us a man don’t work, he don’t eat. he’s supposed to provide for his family.

Everyone should pay for health care, through taxes, it is time to have socialized medicine in this country. All we have to do is look north to see the benefits from it.

well… the simple fact is… health insurance costs are insane… you can’t afford it and you can’t afford not to have it… and it’s going up by around 10 percent annually, so it’s only going to get worse… it’s nice that we have the “Number one health care system in the world” but it doesn’t matter if the majority of Americans can’t afford it.

I mean if you or your husband have a bad health emergency (God Forbid, but it happens) then you are pretty much ruined for life due to the HUGE medical bills, or you will have to file bankruptcy, just to get by… and to me… that’s not really helping anyone, which is what the point of health care is… to help people….

You can get discounted insurance for you or your entire family from your school. I am 29 and it costs 28 a month for a basic plan and 90 for the best.

I say back off of your husband.

Being self employed is very difficult, and takes a lot of work, but is well worth it. Health insurance is very expensive for the self employed. It is obvious from your statement that things are tight, mainly due to one person working in the family.

To tell him ‘to get a different job’, is certainly not the long term answer. Sure, you may have health insurance in 90 days or so, but where will he be in 20 years?

Self employment is better long term. **** it up for a couple of years through college, and then go to work.

When the time comes here is what you do. Find out how much the heath care you can get costs and how much the heath care he can get cost (yes here is some for self employed) as well as what they cover, Look over them and find out the best and go with that.

Can’t you get medicaid with a spend down for yourself too? Since you are in school and have two kids, you should be able to. They have other programs that allow you to make payments each month (through the state) to get it.

Remember you both are a partnership. It sounds like his self employment is making enough to pay the bills and allow you to go to school, so yeah, I don’t blame him for wanting you to get health insurance. I also would hold off on going to the doctor for anything except emergencies too while you don’t have insurance.

My insurance for my daughter and myself cost me $145 per week. It’s not cheap. And then I have to pay for the doctor copays, prescription copays, etc. and the dental and eye is separate. It’s rediculous and expensive (that’s why they talk about it on the TV all the time about health care reform).

But you two are a PARTNERSHIP. If you can provide the insurance, I would expect it too.

Yes a person who wishes to operate a business must do so with the understanding of what those costs are.

He has taxes, workers comp insurnace, libility insur and health insurance that have to be paid to be properly in buisness. If he is not making that much money, and the fact the kids are on medicaid, it says he is not making enough to really support the family, he needs to consider at least another part time job or a full time job and work the business part time till it gets big enough to support the family
