Depends what theyre playing. There are planty of fun learning games. But if theyre already hooked on one Id say maybe an hour a day. They should be playing outside weather permitting. If its ugly outside then let them entertain themselves how they want to inside but if not go to the park or something.
Video games dont make kids violent by the way. Thats ignorant. Its just a game

Funny that one parent should say “if theyre already hooked on one “. That in itself is a very good reason for them not to be playing, as they are addictive.
My kids are older now and not really into video games too much but when they were younger, myself or my husband and sometimes all of us together would play games like Mario Cart and have a blast racing each other.
I agree, get them outside! Toss a ball around and/or do some old fashioned tree climbing and fort building! Buy some roller blades, skateboards or bicycles; as all of those require kids to be healthy and fit in order to use them. Buy a bunch of rakes and tell the kids and their friends that whoever rakes the most bags of leaves gets a prize (you choose prize). I would offer a trip to the DQ or to buy a new book.

I can only reply from personal experience. Grade school children should not be allowed to play on week days (school days) because it interferes with their school work. Middle School kids maybe 2 hrs a night AFTER homework is done and high school AFTER homework is done as long as they want. It is a fact of life and you can’t get around it right now. Kids want to play them and they will find a way to do it. They will play them at friends houses and you’ll never know where they are or what they are doing. I always prefered being the Kool-Aid Mom. After homework and chores every kid in the neighborhood was at my house playing video games and swimming in the pool, playing in my yard, etc. I always knew where my kids were. It just made me more secure in their safety that way.

how much time do they really have left in a day after sleeping, eating, showering, reading, going to school, doing after-school activities, and doing homework? wouldn’t you rather have them using that little bit of time exercising and using their imaginations than playing video games?
so i vote for 0. my older two are 8 and 6 and have only played video games at other kids’ houses.

Our kids are 8, 10 and 15 we have the xbox, playstation and the wii and they all have their favorites as ar as games go however during the week they are allowed to play for 30 minutes and only after all homework is done, chores finished and they have spent some time outdoors with friends. On the weekends they get to play more however they still go outside and play as well. If you haven’t seen the wii check one out it is great it actually gets them up off their **** and moving my husband even likes it.

My kids earn time. They get coins for allowance that can be trades for real money or things like time on computer or video games.
My sister’s kids read for technology time; they read an hour, they get an hour on computer or X-Box.
